Two major Danish cable operators, Teledanmark and Danskabel, select RP-100 / RP-300 instruments for return path alignment and maintenance in all theirs systems.

The use of the return path in cable TV networks is in expansion.Internet services, Pay Per View and video On Demand are increasing theneed for interactivity. The systems have to adapt to the newrequirements and test instruments for installation, adjustment andmaintenance with features covering these applications are becoming amust.

RP-100 was chosen among other alternatives because of the capability to beagile both in frequency and output level. The instrument allows toindependently program 2 or 4 pilots between 5 and 100 MHz with an outputlevel in the range of 90 to 110 dBµV (30-50 dBmV) adjustable in stepsof 1 dB.

Signals generated by the RP-100 will be analysed at the head-end using a RP-300 which will then relay the spectrum display back to the installer in thefield using a free TV channel. This method was historically the firstto be used by cable TV networks to monitor and align return path.Although newer, more expensive and more sophisticated methods can beused today, RP-100/RP-300 system is still a very practical and cost effective alternative.
