Optical LNBs with TV EXPLORERs

1 Settembre 2010.

The optical LNBs combine the four band/polarization feeds together into a single RF signal in the frequency range from 0.95 to 5.45 GHz. The RF signal is then converted to optical with a laser and transmitted over the fibre optics cable. At the other end of the fibre the light beam is transformed back into a RF signal that can be used with any standard satellite receiver. Fibre optics cables have low attenuation and they are completely immune to any electromagnetic interference. Fibre optics cables can therefore be placed in close proximity to strong electrical fields without any problems and they are nowadays quite robust to be installed easily and even bent around corners.

Optical LNBs can be used for those applications where receivers are located far away from the antenna or when it is necessary to give them simultaneous access to all the possible satellite channels (Vertical Low, Vertical High, Horizontal Low, Horizontal High), for example those receivers with recording capabilities.

The optical LNB normally has two connections, the optical output for the fibre-optics cable and also an “F” connector. The “F” connector is not used for any signal transmission but to supply power to the LNB since no power can be carried by the fibre-optics cable. So, the coax cable becomes the power cable for the LNB.

All field strength meters in the TV EXPLORER family can now work with optical LNBs using the new CV-100 Optical to RF signal adapter.

Connecting optical-to-RF conversorThe optical input works with wavelengths ranging from 1100 to 1600 nm and input powers from +7 dBm to –30 dBm. The unit comes with the most standard optical FC-PC connector while others are possible as an option.

The RF output of the CV-100 optical conversor will be connected directly to the meter’s RF input and can be powered from there.
